NAVIS ROLL OUT IN TRANSNET PORT TERMINALS AND BUSINESS PROCESS CHANGES
Transnet Poet Terminals is in the process of implementing NAVIS in the Container Terminals. NAVIS has been operational in Pier 1 Container Terminal since the terminal commenced operations in May 2007. NAVIS was recently implemented in Port Elizabeth Container Terminal and East London, maintaining the status quo for the existing business processes.
The envisaged implementation program for the remaining terminals is as follows:
Port Elizabeth Container Terminal and East London: 1 August 2009 implement the NAVIS business processes
Cape Town Container Terminal and Cape Town Multi-Purpose Terminal:
30 August 2009
Ngqura Container Terminal: 1 October 2009
Durban Container Terminal: 1 January 2010
The revised NAVIS business processes are as follows:
Export bookings: To be performed by the Shipping Lines, using either EDI (COPARN) or on-line using the internet
Import release and assignment of trucking companies: To be performed by the Shipping Lines, using either EDI (COREOR) or on-line using the internet
Extension of import storage period (paid through date): to be performed by the Shipping Lines, on-line using the internet
Amendments to containers prior to arrival in stack will be the Shipping Lines’ responsibility
Amendments to containers after arrival in stack to be performed by TPT
In order to facilitate the smooth transition for COSMOS to NAVIS TPT will engage the Shipping Lines on a per Terminal basis with the view to providing the necessary induction and NAVIS training
