NAVIS ROLL OUT IN TRANSNET PORT TERMINALS AND BUSINESS PROCESS CHANGES

Transnet Poet Terminals is in the process of implementing NAVIS in the Container Terminals.   NAVIS has been operational in Pier 1 Container Terminal since the terminal commenced operations in May 2007.   NAVIS was recently implemented in Port Elizabeth Container Terminal and East London, maintaining the status quo for the existing business processes.

The envisaged implementation program for the remaining terminals is as follows:

 Port Elizabeth Container Terminal and East London:  1 August 2009 implement   the NAVIS business processes
 Cape Town Container Terminal and Cape Town Multi-Purpose Terminal:
 30 August 2009
 Ngqura Container Terminal:  1 October 2009
 Durban Container Terminal:  1 January 2010

The revised NAVIS business processes are as follows:

 Export bookings:  To be performed by the Shipping Lines, using either EDI (COPARN) or on-line using the internet
 Import release and assignment of trucking companies:  To be performed by the Shipping Lines, using either EDI (COREOR) or on-line using the internet
 Extension of import storage period (paid through date):  to be performed by the Shipping Lines, on-line using the internet
 Amendments to containers prior to arrival in stack will be the Shipping Lines’ responsibility
 Amendments to containers after arrival in stack to be performed by TPT

In order to facilitate the smooth transition for COSMOS to NAVIS TPT will engage the Shipping Lines on a per Terminal basis with the view to providing the necessary induction and NAVIS training
